“Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:” Galatians 1:4
Why did Jesus come? We would answer, “to save us from our sins”, and that would be correct. But what exactly does that mean, “save us from our sins”? It does mean Forgiveness, that is true; but it means much more! Here, Paul shows us in the beginning of his letter to the Galatians: “To Deliver us”! From what? From “This Present Evil World”! According to Paul, being saved entails a Rescuing, a Deliverance, a Separation, from our World and Culture. He said in Romans 12, “do not be conformed to this world”. That is why Jesus came, and it is true of all those He forgives!
